    Hi all,

    I'm a big fan of the LOTR books, as you may be able to tell by the name of my BBS... Hehe.

    I'm wondering how many folks read the books before watching the movies? I certainly did, having first read them all about 30 years ago... I've probably read all of them a total of 7-8 times. Something new each time.

    The movies I thought were pretty well done, at least the first three. The way they split "The Hobbit" up into 3 separate movies seemed a little off to me. I
    had the impression they were just trying to rake in as much money as possible from something they knew would probably sell well. They weren't terrible, but it was stretched out a little too much in my opinion.

    One related book that I've not been able to get through is "The Silmarillion".
    Have tried to read it several times but always get bogged down with the level of detail and give up on it. One day I hope to read it completely.

    I'm always open for discussion about these books/movies, please share your thoughts on any/all topics related to this!

    I read them in sixth grade and thought they were great. I was caught more
    by the Narnia series and star trek novels. I was also a big fan of heinlein
    and asimov.

    I watched the first lotr movie and fell asleep. I never enjoy movies adapted from novels because, as a back-seat director, they always skip the story
    points I always want to see, and then they exaggerate scenes that play
    very little into the story. But that's just me.
