    I've played it, but (to my shame) can never really get into it.

    Rimworld is my story generator-of-choice, though I understand it's a little less complex.

    Not really. My dwarves keep dying of dehydration :(

    Have you tried giving them some of that tasty magma?

    It's free, it's available, and the spice puts a pep in their step.
