Spending 10 hours on an airplane is time consuming, so im thinking of albums i should
pre-load on my phone or tablet.

I am thinking of these albums:

Tales from Topgraphic Oceans - Yes
    Calling All Stations - Genesis
The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway - Genesis
Confessions on a Dancefloor 20 year edition, Madonna
    Screamadelica - Primal Scream
    Other - Alison Moyet
A Complicated Woman - Self Esteem

I'd say load up anything you enjoy.

I've ripped my whole music CD collection to FLAC and MP3, and I have all the MP3s on my phone. Years ago, I used to have a dedicated music player (an iPod Touch), but now I tend to use my phone as a media player sometimes.

Ditto. I bought a 1TB MicroSD card and use my phone as an offsite media
backup for my videos and music. So, I have them on my local hard disk,
synced to my NAS and a copy in my pocket.

I've seen people refurbing them, adding Bluetooth and Sd card storage
to them. The tech and design still holds up, and it's a nice excuse not
    to use your phone...

I think the classic iPod was cool. I had an iPod Nano which I used for a little while, which was similar. I thought it was cool, though I always had mixed feelings about having to scroll through things using the scroll wheel..

Yeah, I think it definitely helps to have some music copied to your phone so you can listen without having to stream.

Yeah, similarly, in addition to my smartphone, I also have copies of my music on my media server at home and on a USB flash drive for my car.

    I miss the classic ipod.

Hated iTunes, but loved my iPods. I had the 15-gig third-gen (the first to have a dock) and the silver, 80-gig Classic. Still got both. Unfortunately, the third-gen's battery longer holds a charge and I no longer have a FireWire connector. The Classic, however, is still in fine, working order. Haven't used it in forever, but it's nice to know it's there, if needed.
