seems they are coming to the end of their life... it's a royal pain but at
least they let impacted residents know a few weeks before hand.

I remember seeing something about the decaying poles on Fairgo a few
years ago, great that things are being done to fix this! :-)

Don't know about NZ, but over here there is no defined lifespan for a
pole - they just test them every few years. If they pass they stay. If they need a stay or other support they put a black slash on them. If
they condemn them and they need replacement then they get a red cross
(we were never allowed to climb slashed or condemned poles).
