From RickV@21:1/206 to All on Sun Jul 6 06:52:08 2025
    Hello All.

I have a couple of python utilities that don't work in version a49, but do work in a48. Is there a way (SAFE) to revert back to a48?

    Thanks,
    RickV

    Hi,

You can do that. You just have to copy back all programs and libraries from the old version!

However, it is possible that if a49 changes something in the data structure that a48 will not recognize, this can lead to problems.
    So backup "EVERYTHING" first. :)

    have fun!

I think a49 introduced different timestamps. If you ran the update command your data files can no longer work with previous versions.

    More than that:
Messagebases, filebases and groups now have unique IDs instead of just index/position.

The menu system generates UIDs for items and saves menus in the new format the first time they are edited.

Full screen editor: Template changed from ANSI to INI.

The filebase and messagebase configurations use different internal references in some cases.

An A48 will no longer be able to work with these changes!

    But:
a49 is an alpha version and should not be used for production systems!
a48 is the latest stable version!

And if you do use an alpha/beta version, all files must be backed up beforehand, or the affected directories if the BBS is not running, so that there are no open files while thd backup is running.

If you want to see what will happen in the future, install an alpha version in a VM. It also works in two different directories, but you have to pay attention to the ports and always use different ones!

    have fun!
