No idea, that one was sent from agency (I don't know how to view kludges
on synchronet.)

From the reading menu hit o for Operator options and then h to view the headers. They look different in sbbs but they are there..

I thought about trying some alternatives to raspbian like freebsd, netbsd, alpine
linux, but from what I read it looked like most distros only have limited support for
the Pi or are experimental.

How is your experience with netbsd on the Pi. Would you recommend to test it? (for a
headless server).

IIRC one of the reasons I still use Linux was f2fs (filesystem optimized for flash
storage).

Honestly, no. It works well, but you need to do a lot of compiling,
which takes time - and I suspect wears out the SD card. I've plugged in
a USB Hard Drive adapter and doing compiling on a hard drive, but I am
having trouble with the adapter.

At present I'm runing 9.0 RC1, and right after I installed and got
things going RC2 was released, compiling the entire OS takes a lot of
time, and kind of frustrating when it fails due to hardware problems.

I'm only running it because I like NetBSD - and wanted an excuse to run
it, but if I was serious about using a Pi for a server, rather than just
a play thing, I'd probably use raspbian due to it's packages.

Even if it were nice and fun to have it on amiga or risc os, there is just a limited
amount of time. A BBS that adapts to the terminal size dynamically is also very
cool
and much more useful for the majority of users and sysop (just as an example).

RISC OS is not posix, but it has UnixLib which provides some posix compatibility

I'm not a C programmer and I don't knoe UnixLib, I guess there is still stuff missing
and it is still not as easy as a port to Haiku.

I think that depends a lot on the filesystem, TRIM support and partitioning to the
right boundaries. I still hope my sd card survives a couple of years.

That sounds like I should get some netbsd experience by running it in a VM first and
see how much I like it. I always want to give alternatives to linux a chance (especially after Linus' recent uninformed rant about ZFS), but I'm so used to Linux
that it's hard to switch ...

RiscOS is quite sexy IMO. I've been having fun with my Pi :D
And will probably pick up another one. ;

I get this nifty image in my mind .. Drivin a cab and sysop'ing/
creating BBS tools/software.

Sounds pretty o.g. to me :D
