Hi all

I thought it would be a nice idea to try and capture a list of names and call signs of folks who are amateur / ham radio operators in fsxNet.

This message has been posted in both FSX_GEN as well as FSX_HAM to try and ensure it reaches most folks likely to be interested in this idea.

If you are active in Amateur Radio and would like to take part in this
idea could you please add your name and/or alias and your callsign to the list below this post and let's build a list of contacts for future QSOs etc. :)

If you're not a licensed amateur but interested to know more and/or hang out with folks talking radio stuff I invite you to link to FSX_HAM if you have
not already.

I'm also wondering if people who add their name/callsign to such a list would be happy to be listed in a HAMS.TXT file included in the infopack? That file could include info from SYSTEMS.TXT but be specific to people with a
call sign. Just an idea.

IIRC, when I logged in it was something like 3 months after the deadline -
all data, everything there, and I was even still linked to another call in
the ULS or whichever site is was.

I was informed at the time my alternative consists of testing again (no biggie), and paying a vanity fee forever if I want my old call sign (kd6ncg) back. And I have my ham radio license plates with my call sign too. That's
the part that stings, that they'll call it a vanity call and charge me for
it.

If you know of another alternative I would love to know of it :)

I you have some time, I would reach out to the ARRL. Call them and find out what options are available, just shy of retesting.

Yes will do this coming week, probably Tuesday since I'm all tied up
tomorrow, but it would be nice not to have to test again, although that would be a minor inconvenience for flubbing up as I did (and it's no one's fault
but mine).

The think I want to avoid is getting my call sign back as a vanity call, Getting a different call sign would be unacceptable in any case. I'm somewhat ashamed of myself for being dormant during the eyars I focused on raising my daughter, not paying attention to expiration and renewal.

Thanks Argos! I'll certainly follow up on this and maybe there's a fix.

2M/70CM and D-STAR. I'm the president of our local club and we are a part of the Rural Radio Preparedness Assn (www.rrpahq.org). I am the Net Control for our local VHF Net and one of three Net Controls for our D-STAR Net on
Reflector 046C. I check into the Alabama Traffic Net Mike (ATNM) every
evening that I can (6:30 PM CST) although band conditions lately have been terrible around net time and not many can check in without a relay. I own
both local repeaters. Just the radios, not the cans, antenna or feedline, the club owns those. Both machines were old and I came into three Kenwood TKR-750 VHF repeaters courtesy of a friend, who owns a local commercial
communications company (public service systems, police, fire, etc.). Both old repeaters were replaced with the newer Kenwood units and are working very
well.

My shack radios are Icom 5100A, Icom 51A and an older (but built like a tank) Kenwood TS-940S for HF. The mobile is an older ADI AR-146 2M for the truck. I take the 51A handheld to work with me every day so I can monitor the local repeater. I use a DVAP for getting on the D-STAR reflectors since I'm not
able to consistently hit the nearest D-STAR repeater due to the terrain
around me and the repeater's location. I hope to change that soon when I get the tower off the ground and in the air :)

I got an official call from the FCC way way back in the day (I think I was 11 years old?) for 11 meters (Citizens Band, in the 23 channel era).

My call sign was KYE4358

Later, it was determined by the powers that be that it was illegal or unconstitutional or something like that, and getting licensed for
transmitting over an unlicensed part of the spectrum was optional anyway, and more of a vanity thing as I remember it.

So if I recall correctly, the FCC nullified those licenses and calls and then the part I do remember was that they actually issued refunds - I guess my dad paid something for my call sign? I dunno, if anyone here knows the
particulars it would be interesting to learn of what really occurred, since
as I've stated above, I'm recalling memories of an 11 or 12 or 13 year old
kid lolz.

hehheh heh.... And then I basically disavowed any association with Citizen's Band Radio when I got my Amateur radio ticket. But I would continue to listen to some of those crazy folks on my modified FT-707 - the 10 meters band was split on the selector dial to four sub-bands, two of those, on my rig, had
the crystals swapped out so it would function on 11 meters. I didn't even
know it had been modified in such a way until I realized that half of my 10 Meter's band wasn't even there!

I shhould add, that , "The Twistin' Piston", was a 69 Ford Falcon with a BOSS 302 sporting a radical cam and shit sticking out of the hood in the form of a Weiand Tunnelram with two HOlly 660 centersquirters on top sporting two of those three mile island looking chimney stacks (and um.... bad brakes - we didn't consider stopping as particularly important when you're an invincible teenager lolz).

In Australia, the authorities decided it wasn't worth the hassle, and they switched to a "class licence" model, which simply means that one just needs to be using type approved equipment and operate according to the regulations.

I actually ran CB (with legal type approved gear) amd amateur radio side by side for many years, as many of my friends stayed on CB, while I enjoyed the broader realm of amateur radio as well.
