    Howdy,

Is it down? I haven't received messages since the 14th of March. I sent fido netmails to Sean Dennis and Rick Smith and haven't received any responses...

    Sean is being Sean.

He renumbered stuff, and thought his "week" of notice was sufficent to see a result, and if you didnt comply he stopped delivering mail to the Hub. I use "week" because for me a week is 7 days...

Anyway, I think Rick and I were affected by his actions, because we didnt do what he wanted (even after a real week). Some of us have other important things to attend to first...

Send Rick an email, he needs to change his region address and submit a region segment with the new address. He should know what to do because the demand post has been posted in many places (I think I've seen it 5 times now), so he cant miss it. Or get him to contact me and I'll give him the details.

    (to Deon):
You don't think that's an important enough change for an RC to take the
5-10 minutes that it requires, to make the needed change? In a week?

Send Rick an email, he needs to change his region address and submit a region segment with the new address. He should know what to do because the demand post has been posted in many places (I think I've seen it 5 times now), so he cant miss it. Or get him to contact me and I'll give him the details.

Again, for me at least, I would think an RC would be on top of things
    enough to:
    1. Realize that a change is needed, because he actually pays some
    attention.
    2. Make the required change, which takes about 5 minutes.

Seems that that kind of response comes with the responsibility of being
an RC in the first place. Maybe I'm old-fashioned.

Did I do it within a week of reading the message - yes, I did it within 24hrs.

Did I read his message within a "week" of him sending sent it, depends if your definition of a week is the same as Seans, or is an actual week. Actually that doesnt matter, because the answer to both is no. I've been busy with other things that have been more important.

But this is a hobby and it doesnt guarantee their attention when somebody wants something, nor that something will get done by a specific time that hasnt been agreed. Years ago, I got in one argument with the dude on Fidonet, and he straight up started stalking me, and posting whatever pictures he could grab of me (even though we weren't linked and/or 'friends') from Facebook, on Fidonet.

That right there opened my eyes to his true colors, and how far he was willing to go to win an argument. I've never bothered dealing with him again after that. :|

I'll admit that I assumed the request message was read within a week of
being sent. I guess I shouldn't assume that others' reading habits are
    the same as mine.

Again, for me at least, I would think an RC would be on top of things

Perhaps. I think my definition of what an RC should be doing may be a
little different. What I mean is that merely by accepting the position
(as RC) a person agrees in principle to be more responsive than what we
are talking about here. I do understand that that is merely my opinion.

    2. Make the required change, which takes about 5 minutes.

How would you know it would only takes 5 minutes for everybody? I can
see that could be true if you ran makenl, but I dont.

Another assumption on my part, yes. Someone using a plain text editor
would be the same timeframe. Apparently there are other methods that
    take longer... Okay.

Thanks for the explanation, and for reminding me not to assume too much.

    Cheers.

i remember he got really upset when i told him you don't just "learn assembly language" on a whim to maintain an OS/2 device driver and sockets program (SIO/VModem) and suggested the code would be better suited for the guys at Arca Noae. it was like he wanted glory for holding onto the code rather than

i also remember a post last year i think. "i'm shutting down the bbs forever. it's been a good run" or something. theatric and manipulative behavior, and hatred for criticism.

i've known the guy for ~25 years .. it used to be a lot of fun hanging out on IRC with him and the others on SysopNet. now from the sound of it, it seems like he doesn't let anyone in he can't control. what fun is a message net where every message you don't like is an excuse to ban someone from the network? and when the "offender" is removed from the network, do the rest of the nodes have a nice wank together? lol

I don't know what his reasons were but, in this case, I can sort of see not wanting to turn it over to a commercial entity if I had an opportunity to
open source it or make it freeware. Chances are they'd want to charge for
it or, even worse, keep it and never release it. There have been several
cases of the latter over the years.

Yes? Was this message intentionally blank? Rick Smith got back to me and said that Micronet is temporarily down. I don't know what to believe...

It is down because Rick is having issues connecting to Sean which stem from Rick missing a nodelist change request and your net's segment not being included in the most recent nodelist.

It's not down it's working fine. The iron fist made some changes and
your hub probably didn't have time to change them and now isn't
    connecting.

Contact the iron fist yourself and he'll sort you out.

I sent Sean a fidonet netmail, but didn't hear back.
