I'm in an airport restaurant, have a quick trip (business, alas) to Las Vegas.
Apparently, it's OK now to watch videos or have conversations on speakerphone in a restaurant?
I'm on my personal laptop, have an Out of office message set on my work email, and they're encouraging people to take notes at the conference. It'll be nice to single-task for 3 days.

speakerphone in a restaurant?

Yeah, apparently doing that in restaurants, groceries, etc., is a
thing now. Something I would rather not do or witness but, yeah, it
is a thing.

How else are you going to learn that person is more important then you
will ever be?
I was having lunch and someone at the next table was on speaker phone,
I just started commenting to the person I was with about the phone
call going on.
"Oh man, can you believe poor becky is mad at her boo? Seems the evil
man didn't take her to the club last night." etc.
I got a "Do you mind?" from Becky. To which I reply "Not one bit, I
assumed since you had it on speaker phone you wanted us all to know about your horrible evil disgusting man who didn't take you to the club."
I got an eye roll and she turned her chair to face away from my table
and turned the phone up louder.

When it seems rude, I tend to suddenly play MY desired YouTube on speaker loundly to drive home the point with the dolts filling my world with their noise.
I will be in Sacramento for a 6 hour wait for my flight in March. I will likely
be watching movies or visiting bbses on my ipad at a resturant just to pass the
time.

You are correct. I am sure that, like me, you would hate to be
deprived of that knowledge. ;)

100%, How else will I learn who the important people are? ;)

That was my thought. I don't understand people anymore, I stopped
trying to.

I still think it is rude, though, and wonder if kids that are allowed
to do that will grow up into adults who watch videos in public.

It seems some people don't have any sens of modesty or discretion when talking to people on the phone these days.
Indeed. They just seem to be getting worse and worse. I hate to say this, but I think the people in my generation ("X") who became
parents seem to be
raising a generation that has a high percentage of these "not understandable" persons.
Shout out for Tozo NZ2 earbuds - they come with a battery case, nice
noise cancelling, and they're $30-$40 bucks. They don't connect to
two devices simultaneously, but as soon as I turned Bluetooth off of
my phone they paired to my laptop without a lot of fuss. Nice sound,
too.

In my most recent experience, it was adults waiting for their flights at
the airport. Some screetchy, real-housewives kinda shit.
I don't blame the parents, I blame cell phones and social media. My kids
are both in their 30's and grew up with internet and computers, however
they still know how to have a conversation. (Now - when teenagers they
were too busy txting to talk to us). ;)

I've been wanting to try earbuds again, I'll check the local store and
see if they stock this brand. I have been a big fan of full size headphones most of my life, but people love their earbuds and I like
the idea of having a more discrete headphone while at work.

Neither one of them would ever use speaker phone while in public. Both
do what I do if out to dinner and a phone call that /needs/ to be taken they (and me) go outside to take the call, and come back in when done.
Actually, they're the TOZO NC2. If you don't mind having things in
your ears, they're great. My wife hates anything in her ears, even earplugs, but she was OK with these using the smaller ear pads.
and YOU DON'T!) but nowadays
everyone has at least a crappy

Something kind of funny... I was getting off the freeway the other day
and saw a lady holding a sign begging for food/money/whatever. Looking homeless. Her also homeless looking friend behind her was sitting in a folding chair looking at a cellphone (doom scrolling, no doubt).
