So my tin cans and string is only working one way for some reason. Having not had problems with FD's zmodem previously its hanging up at 1k quite reliably and resorting to retries until it finally times out.

This has bought to light other problems. A good portion of my current linux installs appear to be knackered. Up to the point a good selection of binaries are corrupt, and apt goes through the motions but doesn't actually do anything.

A ground up rebuild looks like it might be in order.

The only times I have sen this happen is when I have a partition that has accidentally run out of space (like /var), I have a hard drive failing, or I
am attempting to do a dist-upgrade of Ubuntu (which is why I no longer use Ubuntu).

Hope you get it figured out.

Probably a bit of all three really. Certainly had at least one marginal HD in there. Coupled with a power failure here.. seemed to take it out completely. Faillure to mount possibly ended up out drive space. And yes its also had a failed Buntu upgrade too... so... its just gotten to the catastrophic stage I think. Not sure I can be bothered trying to repair it... probably just tear it all down and start again. (Oh Joy!)
