This has bought to light other problems. A good portion of my current linux installs appear to be knackered. Up to the point a good selection of binaries
are corrupt, and apt goes through the motions but doesn't actually do anything
The only times I have sen this happen is when I have a partition that has >accidentally run out of space (like /var), I have a hard drive failing, or I >am attempting to do a dist-upgrade of Ubuntu (which is why I no longer use >Ubuntu).
