    First Quarter Moon Again

When a moon phase occurs on the first day or two of a calendar month, it can repeat at month's end. For the second time in August, the moon will complete the first quarter of its journey around Earth on Sunday, August 31 at 2:25
a.m. EDT or 06:25 UT, which converts to 11:25 p.m. PDT on Saturday. When the moon rises early Sunday afternoon, its 90-degree angle away from the sun will make it look half-illuminated - on its eastern side. The evenings surrounding first quarter are the best ones for viewing the lunar terrain when it is dramatically lit by low-angled sunlight, especially along the terminator, the pole-to-pole boundary that separates the lit and dark hemispheres.
