Elongated Crater Schiller (all night)
The heavily cratered lunar highlands cover much of the southern part of the moon's Earth-facing hemisphere. On Saturday evening, February 8, the lunar terminator will fall just to the west of the strangely elongated crater Schiller, which is located in the moon's southern polar region to the lunar southwest of the prominent craters Longomontanus and Clavius. In a backyard telescope, Schiller appears as a flat-bottomed valley with closed-off ends, likely produced when two or more impactors struck simultaneously side-by-side. The 111 by 44 miles (179 by 71 km) wide depression was later flattened by flooded lava, though the more westerly end of the floor retains a central ridge. The 2.4 mile (3.9 km) high rim makes the crater stand out when the moon is 12 and 24 days old.
