Shadowscope.com is hosted offsite, through Livingdot. I map bbs.shadowscope.com using CNAME to my dynamic dns name, shadowscope.noip.us, which resolves to my BBS.
But if you had a static IP then you wouldn't need the CNAME, right?
CNAME maps a name to another name.
In your case, I suggest you get a DYnamic IP provider, which will allow you
to update the IP address of an A record.
That A record will have a name (that doesn't change) attached to an IP
(that can change).
You will then reference the A record NAME in your .BBS CNAME record.
