• RCS Release: AFK

From Black Panther@21:1/186 to All on Sun May 23 12:43:14 2021
    Hi Everyone,

See, I told you we were working on some great new releases for you!

I'd like to announce another one that will be hatched shortly, that I think
    you will love to have!

RCS AFK - Away From Keyboard

This is a Mystic MPL Mod that displays a Matrix Rain screensaver to users, on BBSes that run on Linux or MacOS. On Windows BBSes a beautiful ANSI screensaver is used. After a sysOp-settable amount of time passes, a countdown shows on screen and users Node Status is set to 'Possibly AFK'. After which, node status is set to 'AFK' and screensaver mode starts. If user times out, they are shown an ANSI explaining why, and disconnected. If the user comes back and types a key, they exit the mod and are returned to the BBS.

The entire time, other users checking Who's Online will see the status of any users who are AFK or Possibly AFK.

Oh yea, it looks rad as heck t00. :P

Watch for this to be released in the next day or so!

Awesome, this mod is live on 2o and IMO looks rad! I hope sysOps find it helpful and fun... I'm already working on the next one. :P

It stokes me up that ppl say this. :P The real shining mod in these releases was Game Room - but ... really hope the sysOps like AFK, too. :P

w00t w00t! If you've any questions just ask - theres some hidden variables and modifications an in-the-know sysOp can make to make AFK 'their own'. I'm willing to help you make it even more 'Zip' if desired.

    :P

Yes, the Game Room sounds awesome, too! Although I think it will have to wait some here -- lots of stuff to do at work at the moment...

Hmm, is there ASCII support in it too?
Imagine a Matrix ASCII screensaver... :-D

Actually, the pipe codes in Mystic are pretty nice in that regard, that they automatically translate things to ASCII on-demand. =)

    Best regards

These are both great releases! You should already have it, as it came through fsxNet.

Let us know if you have any questions. :)

Its REALLY nice, I didn't realize how many games DoorParty & BBSLink even had.

I'm not sure if I was completely respectful of ASCII-only users; I did use a lot of Mystic Pipe-Code in the mod, but... I'm not willing to say that it would be 100%. :P

I wrote the RCS AFK mod... its been awhile, tho. :P

Do you have cmatrix installed?? Is it maybe that you don't have $TERM set to something like ANSI-BBS, xterm-color??

    I'd check the system by typing;

    echo $TERM

In a terminal - is it a Linux system, or??

cmatrix is installed, hence it works fines on local machine. echo $TERM results with xterm-256color

OK - hmmm. tG - any thoughts here? Its really hard to diagnose systems; hence why Docker has been so damn popular... its hard to know/guess your exact setup - and when it just w0rks on our systems... we don't know where to start.

If you looked at the code, you know that I'm just some schmuck getting something w0rking on MY system; I'm no xqtr... :P

Lets see if anyone else chimes in - sorry??

Ok, I've got good news!! Finally got it working remotely. Learned something new in the process of fixing it. Where to start....

I tried your rcsafk mpl with unimatrix instead of cmatrix to see if it would work. It did the same exact thing as cmatrix did, but this time it left me with way more error information. It was complaing about ncurses terminal not set. I do indeed have the term set if I type echo $TERM it shows its set. I did some digging in some forums and learned that a daemon service does not load the term environment for that particular service (i.e. mis). Therefore I believe yours works because you are not executing the BBS service via systemd, but through a terminal instead. I had to go back into mis.service and add a line defining the term environment. Code below...

    [Service]
    Environment=TERM="xterm-256color"

Also a FYI, Raspberry PI OS doesn't come preinstalled with xterm. So in order to get the afk mod working you will have to install xterm and then add term to the environment if using systemd.

I feel better now... Now to fix another problematic mod, argh!
    Cheers!

Yep... did you write your mis.service, or is it that one release thats out there?? I don't use the mis.service - but it is a really nice setup!

I believe i am using the one thats out there. I tried the prewritten service for MRC but it didn't work so i wrote my own for that one. Not sure if user is suppose to be root or not for that one. it only works for a minute then times out.
