    Hello, All!

    One day I might, or might not join your party. Though, it's really hard to realize why you folks still on the FTN alternative side. I kinda know the answer but please keep it private.

    The reason, I would like to, but it really it depends on my mood and conditions, I like that you guys have somewhat outside of the mainstream FTN SW which I want to test against.

    It's all the same "mainstream" software, just a different zone number and different netmail routing, is reall all it is. Some networks are dedicated to specific things, others just want to be separated from Fidonet (or some of the people in it - probably moreso in the past than currently). There are also a couple that get quite a bit more actual human traffic than Fidonet does, as well.

    Think of it kind of like Linux. Not everyone wants to run Debian, that's why there are many other options available. :)

    Not really. I'm not physically Z2-R50 based but mentally, and the FTN SW variety doesn't vary much over here. So, whenever I run my FTN prototype, it won't catch much SW bugs as if I were, for example run it on my Z1 node. Well, until the point you can wipe code your own stuff. In Z2-R50 the majority is on binkd+hpt+golded which is a "golden standard".

    Also, an interesting topic, why would you go underground? I mean, Z>7, to enjoy the calmness of the dying "official" z<=3 FidoNet as I haven't seen much of moderatorial and/or coordinators power show off in last decade. So, what's the deal?

    I see your point, and with that said, I'm sure there are plenty of different options to test against in Z1. However, binkd is a "golden" standard because it works wonderfully. So if you're testing against that, and it works, your software is probably doing something right. ;)

    There has been an "underground" scene since the 90s, if not earlier. Nothing has changed in that regard except far fewer people, just like Fidonet. These days, it seems like more of a 'niche' thing, and the fact that some of the networks have been around since those days. Most 'othernets' don't carry upwards of 200 echos, either, and don't like the fact that 150 of 200 of said echos are completely dead. 10-20 or so active areas works just fine, if not better. The broader the conversation you can have in one echo, rather than being moderated that you're "off-topic", the more people are willing to participate.. or so I've noticed anyway.
