This is a game I'm working on.

    Immortal Barons

    https://github.com/andy5995/immortal-barons

Immortal Barons is a turn-based strategy game for the terminal. You rule a barony in a ruined, post-apocalyptic
world. You buy land, feed your people, build an army, and fight rival empires. The goal is to have the highest
net worth when the turns run out, or to conquer everyone else.

The game is written in Go. It is an independent remake, inspired by the 1990s BBS door game Barren Realms
    Elite.

Early work in progress. Immortal Barons is not ready for real play-testing or inter-BBS (IBBS) play yet.
    Mechanics are still changing.

Can I create a win32 go binary? Will there be socket support? If you want
to support DOS and Win32 BBSes, these are mandatory...

DOS won't be supported, unfortunately. As for winsock, here's a copy of what I wrote in the fsx echo ;)

Thank you for the question! This is my first door and I hadn't given that any thought. I've implemented it but don't have a live Windows BBS to test it on. Some info about winsock support in Immortal Barons at https://andy5995.github.io/immortal-barons/door-setup/#how-the-game-talks-to-th

Please let me know if you try it out and your results.

Many DOS BBSes are under Windows 32 bit and can run 32 bit windows doors.

I guess I could compile it, but I'd really like a Win32 binary.

Is this UTF-8 or CP-437? It's got some weird characters. My system uses CP437.

Thank you for the report. I've pushed a fix and new snapshots are available. There is also a document now at
    https://andy5995.github.io/immortal-barons/charset/

You probably won't need to read that though, Immortal Barons should just work with cp437 encoding on your BBS automatically.

Do I need to run nightly maintenance, or does this run the first game of a
day? I can see this with IBBS, but with local games I'd like it to only run when played. It's certainly not going to be played every day. Also, do I
need to do anything special to get AI barons in the game?

Martin, thanks again for trying this out. I added some info to the website to answer your questions. I'll conveniently post here for you as well :)

    - Set the number of AI barons before you start a game. A fresh game has none by
    default.
    - Open the Configuration Editor (run `immortal-barons -reset`, or the
Coordinator menu in game) and set the **AI empires** field.
    - The AI barons are created when you reset the game. Changing the number later
does not add or remove them from a game already in progress Γ ÷ reset to apply a
    new count.
    - Once in the game, the AI barons take their turns on their own during daily
    maintenance. See [Daily
    maintenance] (https://andy5995.github.io/immortal-barons/door-setup/#daily-maintenance) for
    when that runs.

Maintenance advances the game one day for every day that has passed. It lets the AI barons take their turns, runs pirate raids, and refreshes each player's turns.

**You usually do not need to schedule this.** Maintenance runs on its own the first time a player logs in on a new day. If several days passed with no play, the next login catches up all of them at once. A board that is not played every

    day needs no nightly event.
