I run a good 100+ rare games you won't find on most PC boards from the Commodore era and they hardly get played. I just got a load of Infocom text adventures now set up also. Now with loads and loads of PC boards up. I am sure it will be hard to attract players. What we need is more users and less SysOps. :)

there was a huge downturn of users a year ago.

I have regular players for my Yankee Trader doors. Someone was also playing LORD II but I have not seen them on lately.
How did you get Yankee Trader to run? I am able to get it to almost run, but it crashes shortly after the user enters the door. Seems like maybe it's super sensitive to CPU timing or something?
I have about 4 or 5 people who spend every waking hour playing them.. I even increased their daily time limit to like 3 or 4 hours so they could play.. A lot of the games are just fodder, but the big ones BRE, TW2002, LORD are still going strong at least on my Door Server..
Now if you start offering mental health therapy on your bbs, then it will be a complete package ;)
YT is notoriously bad with FOSSIL drivers. Has to do with how the author wrote the I/O routines. For that reason I use DOSBox-X to run it on my board. Running it by itself will almost always lead to the crashes you described. I wrote a lengthy write-up about my setup here:

It's been one of my top doors for the last two years, crash-free!

Oh, and I am using a DORINFO drop file with it. I don't think it works
well with DOOR.SYS (if at all).

That's cool. I'm not a fan of LORD II. That game takes patience!
That is on my DOS board -- Moe's Tavern. moetiki.ddns.net:27
I will visit! Thanks.

This is the writeup I used to get it to run on my Synchro Door Server.. Works like a charm...

I used this last night to configure YT on my board as well and it seems
to be working great.

arent there 2 versions of door.sys? can't remember, been like 20 years since i
ad to fuck around.
i've always used dorinfo1.def when all else fails.

I think so. I know there is DOOR.SYS and DOOR32.SYS, but there could be others still.

The goal should be is promote content that big tech does not want us to talk about.
But that should be for PROMOTE_BBS.

people us facebook instagram and snapchat because they like it.
they dont want to talk to a bunch of weirdos on bbses.

That might be part of it, but I think part of it is that social media has easy to use (usually) phone apps and they get hooked by all the likes/reactions they can generate. They can also cyber stalk their
favorite celebs, family members, co-workers, etc., in a manner that is legal.
the bottom line is what they use is just better than bbses.
they dont want to talk to a bunch of weirdos on bbses.
yup.
half of us never grew up and are old.
yup.
i'm functionally retarded probably.
yup! We're all on BBSs for the same idiotic reasons! ;)

I don't think it's a functionally retarded issue but we're just all
craving to relive the "good ol days" of BBS when life was a hell
lot simpler and the world not as "strange" as the current 'version'.
I have a BBS not because of users; but just for the sake of reliving
the past. It's kinda like a safe-haven.
