Does anybody have any ideas what might be causing this/how to resolve
or avoid it in the future? The fellows whose accounts I've read online sofar seem to indicate that once they reboot it's fixed for awhile but
then ends up happening again after a time. Any information that could be provided would be very much appreciated at this point.
Of course there's an answer! Don't run X on your server machine. :)
If you absolutely *have* to, don't keep it running when you're not using it. *shrug*

I left it running usually before so that I could easily scan all
of my logfiles on one or two virtual desktops. Right now I'm using
that suggestion and just keeping it on the text consoles, though. I'd really like to fix something that's messed up in my system, though,
call me crazy.
