Is there a place I can get a news feed? It seems most services have a TOS that says you're the only one who can access that account, and many of the "free" only allow reading and not posting. Any help would be great!

bbs-scene.org carries most everything apart from binary groups. Try
signing up there - if Netsurge is around, he'll get you set up.

Ok thanks! I didn't realize they did peering as well. I'll contact them ASAP. -=Fireball=-
I'm using a free newsfeed called Eternal September, they carry all non-binary newsgroups, and seem very reliable. Far as I can tell, no limits, I poll for new messages about every 10-30 minutes, 24/7.Is there a place I can get a news feed? It seems most services

Googling "Free newsgroup feeds" brought me to a bunch of sites that
maintain lists of free newsgroup services with their limitations, if any. I'm pulling in all the Atari newsgroups, bbs related groups, rogue-like, arcade collectors groups, and pinball, which is by far the most active newsgroup, gets several hundred posts per day.

i tried those eternal september guys, they have a lot of rules and restrictions. for instance, i wasnt able to post under any other name, which i did when i posted my ads each month.all the info is in the header anyways, so i didnt see the big deal.
Haven't seen that problem yet, but if I do, changing my newsfeed to point to someone elses feed is simple matter. Wish this was like the old days where the big guys actually carried newsgroup feeds. Ah well.
I keep telling myself to splurge and get a dedicated DSL line from a local provider for the BBS. A local ISP offers great service, 3 news servers, and static IPs for around $50/month. Pricey, but he's a real ISP - no caps, no blocked ports, nice features like MX forwarding and DNS.

what you CAN do is buy a block on astraweb and then only use it for
non binaries. it will never expire [as far as i know]. you might want to download a binary here and there to make it seem active.

That sounds like a dream come true. When I lived in the Bay Area I turned like 15 friends onto Astound Internet, a super fast alternative to Comsuck,
How do they feel about non-account email addresses being sent through their servers? I can't really find anything other than their unlimited plans only allow one IP at a time and their blocks doesn't. I mean, $10 for a 25GB
text only feed would last a really long time.

what do you mean exactly?
you are trying to do account sharing? that is not allowed.

Sorry I'm super-behind on my posts. I heard Teranews is okay for this -- you can set up a Rex gateway on your end and "gate" your BBS message area
to Usenet that way. Wish I remembered the details.
Anyway they have a free plan with a one-time setup fee, as long as you're not downloading more than 50MB per day. Good way to get started.

I was thinking a newslink kind of setup, no rex involved. They have a
big no sharing policy... No web-based access of any kind. I may try it anyway. What's the worse they can do? Ban me? lol
WTF? When did usenet become a tightly controlled commodity? I remember when it was free for all... But then, most usenet was run by colleges
and universities back then... I may just start my own usenet/nntp style network and say screw the big guys.

The network itself is very open. You just have to find the right feed
for your uses.
Have you tried bbses.info?

That's probably just end-user licensing. Basically, if someone could spend a small amount, then gate to a large audience, it basically
end-runs their business model.
As far as "no web-based access of any kind", that sounds more like
Fidonet (or at least, how Zone 2 would like it to be). I'm not going
to go into THAT here...lol.
