I know hardly anybody plays this anymore but I've been getting into Door MUD. I've been going out to their site (www.doormud.com) get get maps, info, etc. & I suppose they took down their site.

Does anyone else know where I can get maps/hints/etc. from?

Yeah, I tried to register it for you here, but the guy refunded my $20 witho a word of explanation. I'm never shocked when that happens, but still . . .

Maybe they're just not supporting it anymore...bummer.

Actually, I just heard back from the programmer. He told me the site has been down for years, which can't be true 'cuz I was out there 3 days ago.

He also said that he no longer has access to the web server & that there are some 3rd-party sites with the Door MUD content. I googled that crap for hours the other day & couldn't find anything.

Does anyone know where I can find the Door MUD site with all the info/hints/maps, etc.?

Well, after an EXHAUSTIVE search I was able to find a mirror-site for Door MUD (http://dmud.thebbs.org/).

Since after speaking with the programmer through email & learning that the game is no longer supported, I took it upon myself to download and zip up the entire site & the binaries.

I was going to upload the zipped html here (electronic chicken) through Zmodem but I don't know how to make the transfer.

If anyone anywhere wants a copy of the site and/or binaries, let me know.

when Evan was actually supporting the game.. he was'nt really into it so, I think he wanted the development part of it but did'nt want to deal with the people.. there was a lot of bullshit going on in dovenet at the time and he dropped off the map.. evan was a cool dude.. I think he just got tired of the BS.. (chinaman) was frequenting dovenet at the time..

I'd be happy to mirror it here if you want. As far as Zmodem, it depends on
your term program, but if your having problems with uploading via telnet,
login via web or ftp and send it that way (actually a bit more effiecient
I think to use ftp, but....) use

ftp://"your name":yourpassword@roachguts.com/

To login to the ftp server using your user name and password from your browser, or just visit http://www.roachguts.com/ and you can create an account, go to the file areas, upload, etc. In fact, I'll try to setup a file area for you to put it in under main2 I believe it is (for my 2nd hard drive)

I can't promise anything, but I will at least consider hosting the DoorMUD
site for archival purposes. Is there any way we can get the approval of the original developer?

if thats the case he should openly say so on his webpage. Maybe offer a non-support package deal for like 20.00 for the whole enchalada so you can get the deluxe version.

from what I can remember evan was/is a cool dude, maybe with the right coaxing someone can get him to release a keymaker and put the software out as vaporware.

That's kinda what the problem seems to be, like everything else, he's
abandonded everything about it. Either someone let him have free web hosting, or the website is paid up for the life of the domain name and he lost the contact info to change the website, or someone else took it upon theirselves to register the domaine name and put up their own "Official website ", either way he's not going to change the website to reflect the lack of suppo rt from what he's saying....

I don't know. I think I told you that echicken told me that he tried to register it & the programmer sent his money right back to him.

I have sent Evan an email asking him about the future of the DoorMUD site.
I also asked him if he would open the registration to anyone with the caveat that the game was no longer supported. I will let you know what I find out.
