I haven't upgraded to 10 yet. More of a "if it sin't broke, don't fix it" situation, but should take advantage of the free upgrade sometime.

I've enjoyed the system up until recently, that "automatic reboot" apparently there's NO way to bypass the auto restart, the fucker will schedule a reboot when it thinks you aren't using your system. Nevermind that Virtualbox isn't considered "using" your system.

(I setup Virtualbox to start as a process which fixed the issue, but there's still that chance that Win10 will reboot when my VM is doing something, which sucks)
Windows phoning home doesn't bother me, very dystopian, but I haven't
had any black helecopters land on my front lawn yet, so I have that
going for me.

Don't care what they want to track big deal.. what are they going to learn about me? what I search? ahh what ever.. look at all the big brother
cameras there is outside.. can't avoid it. ISP would turn you over if

There's the same option to disable automatic reboots in Windows 10. I've done that here and I get a notification saying updates were installed and it *needs*
a reboot to finish. With that I can safely close down anything that's running and reboot when I want to.
Start > Settings > Windows Update > Advanced Options > Choose how updates are installed
I have this set to "Notify to schedule restart".

I have the same complaint (though not with Virtualbox).

that's the wrong attitude to have. everyone wants your information. it's valuable.

So do I and yet Windows 10 will still auto-reboot to apply updates, eventually.

I've disabled any and all reasons for MS to send information to itself
during the OS install as well as them sending me information and/or email. I'll leave them alone, and they can leave me alone. :)

I agree, wish I could get paid for giving it up.
If you have pro, hyper-v is built in and may work better than virtualbox, ymmv though. I've got a couple VMs set to autostart with the desktop (and auto shutdown).
Planning to use Hyper-V when I get my next computer. Been eyeballing a new 6gen i5 system with a M.2 SSD. Probably gonna keep my old system running stripped down for the BBS. Waiting for tax refund probably. :)
For me the biggest pita is keeping my local login/account instead of the MS federated one...

Yeah, played with Hyper-V a bit. I should learn more about it, I want to use at my office so our servers aren't so hard to restore when hardware crashes occur, but our head IT lady is stupid, and prefers when we go down for days because she only gets the big payout during downtime. (I digress)

Im loving Hyper-V i use it here on my server and I also use it on my Windows 10 pro machine its very easy to configure and seems more stable than vmware and other virtual box softwares

Upped my desktop to an i7-4790K 32gb ram, 3x 512gb ssd, Back in june and been very happy with it... Though been considering getting a faster m.2, but not sure if it's worth it... The mb has a slot for it.

I'm looking into it now... Sounds intriguing. Wondering how it would run on a Core 2 Duo running low-overhead VMs. I see a lot about running Windows 10 VMs inside of Windows 10, need to know more about running other OSes as guests.

i've heard amazing stories about the Samsung 95x series. I've never considered a i7, seems the i5 is more than enough. I can use the extra
$100 to put towards a slightly better video card.
32Gb ram seems excessive. Having the room to expand that way is nice,
and I guess if I was rendering or something. 16gb, an M.2, a 4+tb drive
and a 16TB NAS (friend gave me his old Drobo+Macmini server, LOVE it.) should do the trick.
Core2Quad processor doesn't work with Hyper-V, VirutalBox does, so....
I'm running a lot of servers/services virtually, and tend to use the
memory more than the CPU. I could probably get by with 16GB i5, but then again, my prior two systems were pretty peppy, but it wasn't much to max
out the ram. --
Didn't know Core2s werent supported...

Boned dude, CPU needs something like SAPL something ability to work with Hyper-V, Core i3-i7 or equivalent probably.

Guess I'm SOL, but I bought another 8 gb of RAM for my desktop to bring it
up to 16, and VMWare or VirtualBox work well.
I'm tempted to move the BBS back here in a VM, but we have frequent power outages where I am -- 3 since September, the most recent this morning. Between that and concerns about Windows 7 rebooting itself after patches I need to do some work before I'm comfortable running the BBS in a VM.
At my old house, under Windows 7 - rock solid.

As long as the VM is set to start with the system, and has the client
tools to shut down with the system, you should be okay... though I'd recommend investing in a UPS if you have *ANY* concerns about power.

Me either until I tried to install the feature on Win10, option was greyed out, went online, yeah need some SIDE processes or something that's in ix processors.
