Yes, this is "normal". Your ROM came with Facebook version x.y.z. All updates after that, you can uninstall the normal way. Facebook x.y.z., you "can't" uninstall--that is to say, the manufacturers didn't intend for you to uninstall it.
that fb is on there due to an agreement between your carrier, google and
fb.
you have to have root to either freeze it or remove it.
i would rather freeze it instead. you can also freeze or remove any
crappy default apps that you would rather not use to free up your memory.
did it take the permissions of the default facebook app? which is locked. unless you are rooted. then just get appmanager.

No, my ROM didn't come with it. I downloaded and installed Facebook myself from the Android store some time ago, after I bought the phone.

Sorry, like Internet Explorer, its part of the operating system. :P

are you SURE your phone didnt have it to begin with?
if you really did not have a fb app you can get rid of the app manually by going into your system/ dir
what version of android and what phone and what carrier? most phones
come with a FB app already installed. are you sure you didnt overlook
this?

Well I remember installing the Facebook app after I bought my phone.. I don't remember it being there when I bought it.

Does the phone need to be rooted to do that? Mine isn't rooted.
It's running Android 2.3.4. It's an LG Optimus Slider through Virgin Mobile. I'm fairly certain the Facebook app wasn't there. Just now I double-checked the specs on Virgin Mobile's web site and Facebook isn't listed there: http://www.virginmobileusa.com/cell-phones/lg-optimus-slider-phone.jsp/
okay i am now positive you had that fb app. i use virgin mobile too
because of the unlimited data plan for 25/month.
i'm sure they have rooted your phone. just look around on android forums.
i have the intercept.
rooting. Why would a phone company root their phones though? I'd think it would be in their best interest not to root their phones, so that they'd have more control over what their phones do, and to prevent customers from doing stupid things and then clogging up tech support lines or returning
the phones to the store.

those phones fuck up one way or another, dude. with root you can backup everything and have full control.
it's just better.

No, my ROM didn't come with it. I downloaded and installed Facebook myself from the Android store some time ago, after I bought the phone.I have a ROM here, that does have FB installed. When I go into Play, it doesn't recognize that FB has been installed, and lets me download it just the same, as if it weren't installed. To date nothing bad has happened, but I've seen this behavior here if it helps.
Yeah.. I've done jailbreaks of the iPod Touch and have thought about rooting my phone but I'm a little nervous of bricking it. I've found some instructions for rooting it online, but they seem a little sketchy - the risk of bricking it seem somewhat high..
to remove it. It's actually fairly easy to do--you don't need to call in
the "haxors". I've done it on a handful of android devices over the years without issue--read a few separate posts/pages that describe the process (not just one), and I think you should be fine.
yeah it has to be rooted. rooting your phone isnt such a big deal. itMy phone is not going to have Jellybean and I will likely have to root it to get CM 10.
just gives you the access that you should have to your phone. there are several benefits as well.
Just a FYI to whoever posted it originally... I installed Facebook on myRe: Re: Can't remove Android Facebook app

even if you brick your phone there is a way to access it and restore a default rom.
i screwed up my phone and i was able to restore it. actually an app
screwed it up real bad. it locked up and when i rebooted it was pretty
much bricked.
I'm seeing something different - If I go into the Play Store, the Facebook app appears as another app that has been downloaded from there. And if I
go into my phone's application settings, Facebook appears on the "downloaded" list, as do the other apps I have downloaded. I'm fairly sure I downloaded it after I bought the phone.

hmm, one way to find out thou.
make a FULL backup of all youur added stuff.
then do a factory reinit of the phone.
and see if it is still there. since you didnt root, it would not be in the factory rom image.
i didnt say you downloaded an update for your phone's os. your phone
updated the app that was already installed.
Yeah, and I know there have been some updates to the app. But what I've been saying all this time is that I'm fairly sure that the app didn't come with my phone - I remember downloading it at one point.

it did!
How are you so sure it came with my phone? On the link to my phone's specs I shared earlier, I didn't see Facebook included in the list of apps.
