  • xterm and cp437

    Hello all,

    I recently installed Debian Linux, and am having some difficulty getting the ANSI going with the CP437 character set. I can't figure how to proceed to get IBM line drawings on my terminal, xterm.

    Please help!

    I had some limited success using Xterm in this manner with the DOSEMU VGA fonts. If it interests you I could take a gander at the arguments I was
    using.

    However, I still had idiosyncrasies with the terminal emulation on BBSes. I eventually gave in and used Syncterm instead.

    there is a way to make it kinda sorta work with Xterm but just use syncterm or qodem instead

    Look for the "VGA" font. This works fine. forums.fedoraforum.org/archive/index.php/t-251975.html

    Read the last post.

    For the full screen framebuffer console,
    I isse these two commands.

    unicode_stop
    setfont -m cp437 /lib/kbd/consolefonts/default8x16.psfu.gz

    And Syncterm displays correctly.

    On a plain ol' xterm?

    Install konsole
    Install fizsh and make it your shell
    (this won't do anything for getting ANSI, it's just a good shell)
    Open konsole
    Go to Settings
    Edit Profile
    Advanced tab
    Default character encoding: IBM850
    Bam.
    You can save this as a separate profile just for bbsing.
