About 12-15 years ago, BeOS was in development as a new OS built from scratc to support multimedia applications. It was indeed something different, and was very responsive too. It didn't take off though.. These days it's hard indeed to come up with an OS to gain a large userbase.

From what I read, it sounded like he new C64 is just supposed to contain som kind of emulator to run old C64 software, and the emulator works like the ol C64 OS? It was my understanding that you could dual-boot that between that Windows or whatever other OS you wanted to install on it.

Does the emulator work with Mac as well or only PC?
