I am wondering what would be good to run a bbs 24/7 with. I was thinking of going for a box with a small form factor so it would not take much room sitting next to my main box.

That Asus eeeBox thing might have made a good little BBS server, but I don't think it's still being made. Michrech was running his BBS on a Via Nano box of some description, iirc.

I'd like to see someone run a BBS on a Sheevaplug (plugcomputer.org) or other Linux wall-wart type server.

I managed to cross compile a "hello world" app for my Linux-based router
(using Tomato firmware). I was tempted to see what it would take to port a
BBS to it, but the thing has only 16MB of RAM and almost no flash space remaining. If I got a BBS running on it, it wouldn't be doing much.

Those sheevaplugs look pretty cool, though. If I can manage to work on somethnig for more than five minutes before giving up, I could have some serious fun with one of thouse.

I'd think about anything out there today would work. Heck, I run mine on a trashy (I mean JUNK TRASHY) Dell Dimension 400C (?) that I found in a closet at work. Tossed Win2k server on it, setup my syncronet board on it. Only runs a 100w power supply and a rotten old 400MHz Celeron. (I hate celerons, but it's working.) Been stable with no crashes for over a year now.

That's probably a freakin' miracle for sure. Thank God for good nightly backups.
