What's your thoughts on using sound card packet software with your AX.25 stuff for Synchronet? Is it possible? Or do I have to go buy a TNC to do
interesting things to do. Would be curious to know what you'd like todo wi
it and what you're expecting from it (everyone seems to have a different take.)
I did get the AX.25 stuff configured per your instructions on the sync wiki, that went well, but it became obvious that using AGWPE (which does not present as a TNC) was going to be an issue. I'll likely buy a TNC, but I'm just planning ahead at this point, as the "lair" is only a floor frame presently. Ha!
I saw your youtube video where you demonstrated the functionality, that pushed me to begin seriously working on it (or at least getting the board configured, which is done.)
that's good. Bear in mind that it isn't interoperable with other packet to eventually make that happen by introducing a command shell that supported all of the typical commands that PBBSs, F6FBB, etc. use. That makes sense.
are really into it...I'm mostly just interested in making my standard BBS accessible via AX.25. Pretty cool concept.
put compatibility with other packet BBS stuff on hold. Honestly most packet BBSs are pretty lousy anyway, so I don't think we're missing much by not hooking into them.
Hey echicken,
What's your thoughts on using sound card packet software with your AX.25 stuff for Synchronet? Is it possible? Or do I have to go buy a TNC to do it right? Haha

Just throwing this out there, I don't see why not. I use AGWPE as part of the AX.25 stack on my SBBS; and though I am using a real TNC (Kantronics KPC-4) I don't see why it shouldn't work with a soundcard TNC.
This is actually something I've almost attempted to test, but have not yet. I agree, AGWPE should work if configured properly.

I haven't touched AGWPE in years, but the "AGW KISS-mode Serial Loopback Interface," mentioned by KD8REV sounds very much like a KISS interface, so i ought to work with anything that wants a KISS interface. AGWPE also has som kind of server that you can connect to, presumably to receive raw AX.25 or K frames from; if/when I work on packet stuff for Sync again, it should be doa to optionally interface with said server instead of using some serial loopba thing.
