  • Linux Format Magazine, final issue article on BBSes

    In the apparent final issue (#329) of Linux Format magazine, they had a nice article about BBSing which includes a mention of Synchronet and some screenshots from Synchronet BBSes:

    I'd not heard of this magazine until this issue was brought to my attention by a fellow SyncOp (on Facebook!). I attempted to purchase a printed copy of the magazine, but apparently it's not available any more and seller just refunded my purchase price. The free PDF download link (above) is available, though it appears to be images only (not OCR'd) so searching for text doesn't really work.

    I do have some technical "issues" with the BBS article, but still, some press is better than no press. It seems to be pushing a terminal program I've never heard of/used either: ElecTerm - anyone tried it?

    checking out it out. looks pretty robust.
    it doesn't handle ansi very well on my bbses.
    colors are off and it does light black background
    it handles ansi cursor positioning fine.

    i tried to convert it to ocr, but it kept bombing out with everything i
    tried.
    i checked it out and i wasn't impressed by his article. It just seemed lazy. ---
