BBSlink is a great resource for us Sysops to allow our players to have
access to games with many players, there were only a couple drawbacks, (1) Hard to get ANSI score files to post on our BBS systems (2) no place besides the web for players to discuss the games they are playing.

yeah, We had an awful Thunderstorm last night and straight line winds snapped powerpoles in my neighborhood like toothpics, took them six hours to get our power back on. God bless LineMen. anyway, I'm back up and rolling as of 15 minutes ago.

We had an awful storm last night, straight line winds snapped poles like toothpicks in the neigborhood, woke up this morning to the neighbors tree down across their fence and half of our yard. anyway, yes. host away, its nice to have it in as many places as possible. I've kept decent uptime lately, but you never know when crap happens, our power was out from about 6:30 until 1:30am edt.

you might want to consider hosting a bbs with a budget provider.

it allows you to have a lot of stability and play around. i'm using proxmox to host 4 systems and i can also use it for personal needs and give my friends access and they pay part of the bill.

I've considered this in the past myself. I do use a VPS for some ham radio infrastructure (conference servers, etc), and it works well. However, with bandwidth about to get a massive upgrade here, and plans for a solar power system for the ham shack (and BBSs), I should be set in the long term.

you know, I have been leaning strongly towards doing this, I will check out proxmox. it sure would be nice to offer better speed, reliability, and all the other good shit that comes with it.. I will really miss my SBBSCTRL console though, I love it.

i HIGHLY recommend it!
we have okay bandwidth here in my area but it's still good not to run this
junk at home.

here is the web interface and you can access it via ssh and upload images to it to install into a VM

pretty simple stuff. the hard part was setting up the ip addresses and i had a friend help me. like i said, on windows it's easy.
