Thanks for the tip. Although this would also block all updates and
fixes if you just block MicroSoft all thgether in your host files.
I never bothered with the host files, just the blocking/hiding of updates that where never needed and included additional telemetry.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So how concerned should users be about Windows 10's default data collection policies? I would say very.
By default Windows 10 Home is allowed to control your bandwidth usage,
any software it wants whenever it wants (without providing detailed information on what these updates do), display ads in the Start Menu (currently it has been limited to app advertisements), send your hardware details and any changes you make to Microsoft and even log your browser history and keystrokes which the Windows End User Licence Agreement (EULA) states you allow Microsoft to use for analysis.
The good news: even if Belfiore states you cannot switch off everything, editing your privacy settings will disable the worst of these. To find them open the Start menu > Settings > Privacy.

The tracking is completely intolerable and unforgivable.
Funny how much do you know is really using tracking software.
1. Windows 10 (most recent).
2. Apple OSX (has been for years).
3. Google (has been for years).

True. I prefer to avoid as much of it as I can.

Only gets worse with time, pending on how much is really allowed and does anyone really know the limits before they are pushed to far?

I run OSX with Little Snitch, which is a pretty epic personal~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
firewall. But I allow/deny every single outbound connect on a per process basis... I wish there was something like that for Windows.
I don't mind Win7, but the worst part of Win10 is honestly the Xbox~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
start menu. I hope you don't have a gag reflex because Mikeysoft will attempt to shove that down your throat... Most telling is that it can be disabled by *Enterprise* customers, but not Home/Pro users. Yeah, explain that one =)
But the start menu and times are customizable.. it comes default with
all this shit.. but i just deleted them all and no problems since.. :)

handy to get rid of, (Network based etc.) Of course we only have the
one damn windows box left so most of the time I just connect to a XP
VM and use that version of ie6 to scan. LOL (It doesn't have access to
the internet what so ever)
Ouch, ya IE is the worst piece of shit ever.. Edge isn't much better
but at least is has some html 5 and css 3 support. It is a pain for
older stuff that used java applets that no longer work in newer browsers anymore. That was pretty handy.. but guess all good things come to an

True enough, but hey if I can keep using the scanner for now with
a XP virtual machine and IE why not? ;)

Whatcha doing with the scanner? Theres absolutely a time and a
place for a WinXP vm, but please don't use it for web surfing lol...
I'm a Chrome head now dude.. Ran FireFox for years with noscript, but~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
it just felt like it kept getting more and more bloated and slow. What I
do not is run a more hardened browser (Chrome) with no plugins, click to
play on the built-in parsers like Flash, and run a personal firewall so
only 80/443 are approved. Soo many shitty high port redirects on sketchy sites.

internal web apps are definitely a weak spot in most enterprises. and they tend to house really valuable data, which makes it even worse ;)
Gotcha, that totally makes sense. I used to run one of those "Scantron" machines that read the bubble forms like we'd use in school sometimes for tests. It was locked to some old software/os too.
Offline only = all good =)

Why haven't any of the BBS guys incorporated or even made a Browser like links or Elinks into their BBS? That would be cool. What would be the problems if one made browsing the net from their BBS?

Maybe you could make a MPY for Mystic that incorporates the webbrowser.py library.

Has it been tried? I'm just curious why a text based web browser
isn't avaiable as a door or something.

In 1995 I had Lynx configured as a "Door" on my BBS... Obviously that
stuff hasn't been needed in forever. :)
I use lynx and links2 more these days then I did back then. Too much nonsense on the web sucking up my data. I have to use my smartphone to get online and need to keep my data down as much as possible. Other then "not being needed" why else do SysOps not interested in a lynx/elinks door?
IIRC there are options to run it fairly securely. Some sites have more text oriented, but a lot of the issue IMO is that the modern web is an absolute clusterfuck so it's hard to navigate around without a large screen, javascript, and so on.

Once May 13'th gets here I'm in the same boat as you mobile data only at a
HUGE price. I have to keep it under 2 gb a month or I can't afford it, as
2GB is $65 a month, and that's more then enough.

Sux being broke don't it? Data is like air to me. I hate stressing
over data. I got enough to worry about. But they got me by the "ba*&s.
I need the data just as much as the air I breath.
Has a Text based Browser with Javascript support been written? I love
